Horizon House

Nestled elegantly into the landscape of Ontario’s Blue Mountains, the Horizon Home is a testament to modern design and engineering. A wall constructed primarily of glass panes graces the back of the home, while opaque walls wrap around the front of the home. This juxtaposition of public and private space is evident through the use of contrasting materials and the clever arrangement of interior spaces. With an open concept plan, large windows allow the home’s communal spaces to be flooded with natural light, while opaque walls along the private spaces of the home promote a feeling of comfort and security. With deep overhangs, Horizon Home’s thin roof had to be specially engineered for the project. Minimal use of structural elements aids in the light and airy atmosphere in and around the home, further blurring the boundaries between interior and exterior, public and private.
